Frequently Asked Questions

How does the CES Ultra work? Will it work for me?

Electrical activity in the brain controls the production and management of neurochemicals. When electrical activity is balanced and consistent, the brain can function at its highest level. However, stress can disrupt normal electrical patterns in the brain, resulting in neurochemical imbalances that can cause anxiety, depression, and disrupted sleep-wake cycles.

Using gentle microcurrent, the CES Ultra indirectly stimulates tissue in the hypothalamic area of the brain with a well-studied, healing frequency, prompting the brain to return to a state of homeostasis and restoring proper chemical rhythm and balance.

Patients worldwide have enjoyed increased mental clarity and calm, a significant reduction in anxiety and stress, improved sleep, and increased focus through the safe and gentle benefits of CES. Study after study reveal impressive results and benefits. It is very likely that you’ll see benefits, too.

Is the CES Ultra safe?

Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation (CES) has been used and rigorously tested for decades. It is an FDA-registered treatment for anxiety and insomnia with no lasting side-effects. A small number of people will experience dizziness, headache, or irritation at the site of the current, but these are the only side effects or adverse reactions reported.

The CES Ultra has undergone extensive testing and proves both extremely safe and reliably effective.

Are there any contraindications or side effects?

A small number of people will experience dizziness, headache, or irritation at the site of application. These are the only side effects or adverse reactions reported in the 38 years of testing and usage worldwide.

There are no known contraindications of the CES Ultra. However, caution should be exercised in certain patients. The CES Ultra should not be used without ongoing clinical supervision in the following circumstances:

• Patients known to be pregnant
• Patients with implanted electronic devices such as cardiac pacemakers or insulin pumps
• Patients with severe depression
• Patients with epilepsy

How is the CES Ultra different than other CES units?

The CES Ultra is the front-runner of CES units available on the market. It is the only unit which features the original 100 Hz configuration used in most available research.

The CES Ultra has been specifically tested in its unique configuration and has been shown to be safe and effective. Other units on the market from cheap, “underground” sources may claim to have been tested, but most have not, and are not backed by scientific evidence or research. They are also not registered with the FDA.

What research backs up CES?

There are approximately 1,000 articles in the United States Library of Congress which detail the safety and effectiveness of CES therapy. Additionally, there is a robust body of physiological and bio-engineering data on electro-sleep and electro-anesthesia, including 18 experimental animal studies.

There have been over 100 human studies and trials on CES Therapy. The efficacy of CES has been indicated through physiological tests, computerized EEGs and topographical brain-mapping. Meta-analyses yielding positive results have been conducted at the University of Tulsa and Harvard University School of Public Health. In all the years of research, no significant negative side effect has ever been reported during a trial or in follow-ups up to two years later.

Can children use the CES Ultra?

There are no known contraindications for the CES Ultra. Children should be able to safely use the device under the supervision and guidance of a prescribing physician. Always follow instructions and advice from your physician when using CES Therapy on a child.

What does using the CES Ultra feel like? Does it hurt?

Most people find the experience of using CES Ultra to be painless, simple, and enjoyable. Many experience positive results immediately or in the hours following treatment. The most you will ever feel is a tingling sensation. You can control the intensity of the sensation with a simple knob, and you should set the intensity at a comfortable position.

Many patients turn the knob up to the point of sensation, then slightly dial it back and leave it at that intensity for the duration of the treatment session.

What is the suggested length and frequency of treatment?

CES Ultra can be used on an as-needed basis, or as a daily treatment. You can use it alongside meditation or positive visualization, or simply hook it up and use it as you go about your day.

In the first month, many physicians recommend using the unit for 30 to 45 minutes, 1-2 times per day. Once symptoms are reduced, usage can be decreased. Patients suffering from severe anxiety and extremes of compulsive behavior often benefit from a more robust treatment course.

The CES Ultra is non-addictive and it is not possible to overdose. However, it is often recommended to decrease usage as your condition improves until you no longer feel dependent upon it.

When should I start to see results?

Many patients with anxiety will feel almost immediate improvement, or will experience improvement within a few days of continued treatment. More severe cases may require a more robust and longterm treatment course. Results are commutative and improvements compound over time.

The relaxed-but-alert state brought about by CES Therapy usually remains for about 12 to 72 hours after the first few sessions. With regular use, many patients notice that they habitually feel centered in this state of relaxed but alert consciousness longterm.

What does “FDA Registered” mean?

The CES Ultra has been registered with the FDA as an approved medical device. The FDA has cleared it as a treatment for anxiety and insomnia under the supervision of a medical professional. As a medical device within the USA, the CES Ultra may only be secured by patients through prescription from a licensed healthcare practitioner (M.D., D.O., Naturopath, Chiropractor, Acupuncturist, Psychologist, etc, depending on a given state’s regulations). Results and adverse reactions are tracked and monitored by the FDA.

Outside of the United States, the CES is an over-the-counter device, available without a prescription and with few restrictions.
